24-hours of art-making
Local artists work side-by-side for 24-hours, Santa Barbara, CA
Spurred by the enthusiasm of the first event of it’s kind last year in october, artists will come together again for a 24 hour art event. At the Viva Design Space in downtown Santa Barbara, a small group of local artists will put their worlds on hold while they sink into an intensive creative rhythm for a 24-hour cycle. Beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, May16th 2009, and concluding at 10:00 am the next day, these artists will have an opportunity to push their internal boundaries, test their creative endurance and immerse themselves in process.
Saul Gray-Hildenbrand and Ethan Turpin, feel the experience should be about “art for the sake of art”, with no other limitations or rules.
The artists will be working side-by-side, where they are likely to find renewed inspiration and form strong bonds from the experience... but ultimately, this is an individual journey. Each participant has the freedom to work as they wish, on whatever inspires them at the moment – whether it be their own projects, to explore new techniques, or to collaborate.
While visitors are not permitted during the 24-hour period, the studio will open to the public at the conclusion of the event at 10:00 am on Sunday, May17th, for an informal art showing of their work.
The formal art opening will be held on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 pm (coinciding with 1st Thursday’s art walk) at the Viva Design Studios, where guests may view the final artwork and have an opportunity to speak with the artists about their experience and the work.
